Investing in the Future of Bitcasa

People’s stuff has become increasingly digital: the number of photos, videos, documents, and other files are exploding. And as the amount of personal data continues to grow, people need a home to safely store all of these digital belongings. That’s why we’re committed to designing The Bitcasa Platform with YOU at the center, making your digital belongings infinitely useful, infinitely accessible and infinitely private. We strongly believe in our vision for the future, so we’re excited to announce that we’ve raised $11 million in funding! This funding will be used to accelerate product development — particularly around new usability features — and quickly scale to meet the growing international demand. These days people don’t always have control of their own digital belongings, or know how to store them in a way that’s affordable, private and accessible. Bitcasa is here to solve that, making your data easy to store, share and use! Stay tuned for updates as we continue investing in The Bitcasa Platform! Thanks, Tap

  1. Cool! Can’t wait to see what you guys can create in the future.

But remember, right now stability is more important than new features ;) Quality first, quantity afterwards

  2. Please, stability first like Martin said. I’ve written blog posts on how unstable this product is, albeit a lot of those bugs have been fixed… and replaced with other bugs. I want to love Bitcasa, but I can’t right now.

  6. GJ on getting more money, but you could probably have gotten that if you fixed your forum for European users, got the API out and a Linux client.

But hey, what do i know..

  7. Bitcasa says:

Hi Michael. We’ll have news to share regarding our API program and Linux client very soon, and are working to make the forums available to our European users ASAP. Stay tuned!

  8. I’ll look forward to all three! :)

For me the ‘pin local’ feature is number one on my wish list. As a infinite user I am very pleased with the fact that I can store everything on Bitcasa, but I find it very slow. I am used to the speed of a ssd harddisc, but some bitcasa folders take seconds to load. Also the folders I use a lot. Next to that I am on my boat a lot where I do not have internet, so I want to be sure that some folders are local.

Hope to hear from you when I can expect this feature.

    Greetings,

    Daniel

  17. Bitcasa says:

Hey Daniel! While we don’t have an ETA as to when a “pin local” feature may be implemented, you can vote on and follow the discussion of this feature here: http://feedback.bitcasa.com/forums/184524-bitcasa-feature-requests-suggestions/suggestions/3975270

  18. Martijn says:

You do have an ETA on the privacy issues, right?

I think you guys at Bitcasa really need to ACTUALLY start sorting out your download speeds from your servers especially for us here in Europe. It’s been bad enough that we’ve not been able to access the forums for ages now and the download speeds are soooooooo slow. 300KBps up to a few Mbps is dreadful from a service that’s being promoted as something special. What’s the point in having the ability to upload large files to an encrypted server and when you wish to download them again it takes longer than it did to upload??? If your trying to attract new custom then really ought to sort out the important issues first

  20. Sebastian says:

    Re Bob

I could not agree with you more mate. I made the mistake of uploading everything I have. After weeks of uploading and a total format of my computer I decided to download some stuff back. Averaging the same speeds as yourself I realised how much trouble I have gotten myself into. The speeds really have to improve. This should be priority number ONE!!

I’ve tangled with Bitcasa about this issue for weeks and tried everything that they have recommended. Why offer a European package and not have a fully functional direct route server that doesn’t send everything over to California.

Going back to Australia this week and basically writing bitcasa off until I return to the UK. Please sort this speed issue out.

  21. Martijn says:

Actually, speed should be priority number two. Priority number ONE should be this bigass gaping hole of a privacy leak that Bitcasa goddamn well knows about but continues to leave as-is.

If you’re going to be billing by the byte, then i want to pay by the what i’m actually using in storage. The de-duped amount. not the raw amount.
